goth ninja [gth nnj]- (n.) a fashion style consisting of a monochromatic color palette and asymmetrical pieces that are designed around the silhouette. it’s notably defined by layering and the use of contrasting form-fitting, tight clothes with loose, over-sized clothes.

where do you usually shop/where did you get that?

in stores- american apparel, h&m, zara.

online-  oaknyc, represent clothing, voidthebrand, delusion, asos, guylook, fabrixquare, virginblak.

if you’re looking for womenswear, i’ve seen some good pieces at ovate, sanctus, and aakasha’s etsy.

i’ve heard fabrixquare/guylook/virginblak quality can be dodgy. what are your thoughts?

guylook, fabrixquare, and virginblak are by and large some of the cheapest places to shop online. that being said, you get what you pay for. in terms of fabrics used and durability, i’ve never really had a problem with them, but i also take good care of them. pieces that i’ve neglected can end up pilling a bit, and wrinkling very easily.

these stores also design clothes in a one-size-fits-all manner that is very unforgiving. height-wise, if you are too short or too tall, these clothes will most likely not fit you. they’re also meant for people with slim to athletic figures. i assume making them in one size keeps the cost to produce low, and using fairly average proportions (especially for korea) will reach a wider audience.

that being said, if you have any doubts, start with a single item that won’t break the bank and see how you like it. i personally steer clear of anything denim and leather from these stores, just to be on the safe side. also their shoes are way too small for my feet.

the next tier up would probably be zara and OAKNYC. their pieces typically come in the standard range of sizes and are fairly more durable than pieces from korean stores.

beyond that, it’s mostly a matter of jumping on sales as soon as they crop up and hoping they have your size. if money is really tight and you still want to get into this aesthetic, investing in a pair of drop crotch pants and a good piece of outwear would probably be the minimum requirements.

i love this style, but where do i start?

‘style’ can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. you’re going to want to work with contrasting layers of loose and draped with slim and tailored, and buy clothes in a monochromatic or muted tone palette. for me, i like to think about what a normal outfit would look like and then play with the silhouette of it. elongated shirts, draped jackets, and drop-crotch pants are all just exaggerated forms of regular pieces.

how do you wear goth ninja in the summer time?

summer goth ninja fashion is much more difficult, but still possible. during the summer, i usually change my color palette to lighter grays and whites, with maybe a single black piece. i’d focus on lighter fabrics and a looser fit as well.

‘goth ninja’ is such a lame term, why do you use it?

because it’s a useful term to categorize a new and abstract style. plus you can’t make up your own nickname.

why don’t you buy designer brands?

i would if i could, but i don’t have the money. yet.

this has all been very informative but i don’t think i can pull this off.

goth ninja, as with any unique style, has to be worn with confidence. if you walk around wearing something like this and think ‘oh god, do people think i look good?’ then chances are people are going to second-guess you as well. feel comfortable wearing what you want to wear, and i’m sure it won’t go unnoticed.

what are some blogs you recommend to follow?

just look at who i reblog. i love all of the blogs i follow.

how many followers do you have?

it honestly does not matter.

why do they call you sick boy?

the character sick boy from trainspotting. my hair used to be platinum blond like his.

i followed you for goth ninja fashion, but you were posting inappropriate sexual pictures and dumb posts about your life. what gives?

this isn’t a niche blog. this is a personal, 18+ blog where i post fashion that is interesting and inspires me. come for the fashion, stay for my musings.
